The Kingdom of Morocco is in North Africa, with a population of around 34 million and a land area of some 447000 sq km. Its has an Atlantic coast that reaches past the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea. It has borders with Algeria to the east, a water border to Spain to the north and a land border to the south with Mauritania.
The Rif Mountains are in the area bordering the Mediterranean to the north and west, the Atlas Mountains run down the country from the south west to north east, and most of the southern region is in the Sahara Desert. The climate is Mediterranean, becoming more extreme in the mountains, and forest cover around 12% of the land area.
